Materials Used in Construction

Advanced Elements AF Expedition Kayak Cockpit

The solo Advanced Elements AF Expedition kayak is the third largest in size of the four AdvancedFrame kayaks (that includes the Sport, the original 10'5" AF, and the 15' Convertible), and it is the most versatile. It carries a max weight capacity of 450 lbs with plenty of room under the deck for storage.

It has nine air chambers to provide added buoyancy, high flow Spring valves for quick set-up time (about 10 minutes), as well as assistance with deflation – a must if you want the boat to fit back in the bag!

Advanced Elements AF Expedition Kayak Bag

The hull has built-in aluminum ribs to give shape to the bow and stern for better tracking, plus it has a tracking fin, and a low center of gravity for added stability. There are no poles to insert to shape the frame; simply take it out of the bag, unfold it, and pump it up.

Feedback from Current Owners

Like the other AF models, the Expedition IK is stable, easy to paddle, spacious, offers great tracking in calm water, and is easy to enter and exit. The reviews on the AFs are exceptional with many happy paddlers commenting that it is their favorite of all the Advanced Elements kayaks they have owned. It tracks straight, looks great on the water, and is a perfect alternative to a hard shell.

What We Say

This 13-ft and 42-lb kayak is longer and heavier than the AdvancedFrame (at 10'5" and 36 lbs) and the great features are the same for both models. If you are a taller adult, or plan to take a lot of gear on your trips, go with the Expedition; otherwise, the $399 AF will suite your needs. The Advanced Elements Af Expedition kayak is ideal for recreational kayakers who prefer quality equipment that is reliable, safe, and offers good maneuverability and speed.
