Superior Construction

Both the 14' Lion and the 16' Lion cats are fitted with Leafield B-7 valves, 4 urethane bladder AIREcell air chambers, high-performance multi-layer PVC fabric, and heat-welded seams. AIRE Lion catarafts are made from a 35 oz. per square yard 1670 denier PVC on the top of the tubes and a 43-oz/sq yd material on the bottom. The larger tube diameters and longer waterline make the Lions very stable with a noticeable shallow draft.

The AIRE Lion 16 Cataraft is typically compared to the 18' Leopard in capabilities, but offers a slightly larger tube design, higher rocker, and longer waterline.

The AIRE Lion 14 Cataraft is smaller and works best for rivers with tight spots where you can get into trouble with longer boats. Like the Lion 16, the 14-footer is designed to carry a large load comparable to most 16' catarafts.

Both of these AIRE Lion catarafts have shallow drafts and can pivot quickly in tight spots. They lose some performance in speed, but the trade-off is ideal for trekkers who need this specific feature for low water shores and streams as well as performing with ultra-smooth stability on fast class IV and even class V water.

What We Say

When compared to the wild ride of river rafts, the U.S.-made AIRE Lion catarafts are workhorses that help eliminate the toe-curling apprehension of running un-scouted rapids. It will respond to rough water better than a raft plus you’ll sit high to see whatever is coming up downstream. We have observed many customers write enthusiastically in their own reviews about both models, pointing out their durability in taking on most any canyon river challenge, the great load capacities, and excellent maneuverability. You will need to purchase extra-long oars since the oversized tubes, frame, and seat will have you higher in the air than on other cats. Another point: as with all these big cats, be sure you weigh it down with gear and people, or it will surf like a bobber and give you more thrills than you had planned.
