Designed for Fast Water
These inflatable kayaks have high-pressure side chambers that are inflated to 3.7psi, compared to 3psi on Innova’s other kayaks. This reduces flexing while rolling over big waves, while the swept up bow in front takes on chop and turbulence and the self-bailing holes drains water from the boat. The 12'10" tandem Innova K2 is one of the more stable two-person river running designs on the market.
Because of this unique design, neither the Innova K1 inflatable kayak nor the K2, are recommended (by maker Innova) for flatwater touring, sea kayaking, or surfing. They are suitable for rivers only, with water running from mild to moderate and advanced, up to Class IV whitewater.
Reviews and Feedback
For $1600 and $1900 MSRP, respectively, the Innova K1 and K2 have not impressed reviewers despite their solid, rugged construction. The inflatables are average performers that have a fairly low weight capacity, and don’t offer anything exceptional that stands apart from competitors’ kayaks – other than the high price.
Innova hits it out of the park with their under-$1000 kayaks for quality, performance, and value, but they aren’t as competitive with the high-end yaks over $1500, as the price-to-value ratio is questionable. The Innova K1 inflatable kayak — and the K2 — are several hundred dollars higher compared to similar models in their class, and the value doesn’t justify spending the extra money. Brick-and-mortar stores and online boat dealers don’t sell many K1s and K2s (or the Orinoco) so if you want one, you may have to request a price quote and make a special order.
