No Major Issues
The Rave Molokai inflatable kayak features a reinforced bottom of heavy-duty PVC Tarpaulin which is not only slick for easy movement in the water, it also helps protect against punctures. The inner bladder is made of strong PVC for superior air retention. The easy to operate Boston valves allow for quick inflation – just five minutes and you are ready to go.
There are bungee tie downs at the back, three fins on the bottom to improve tracking, and it has six foam-filled handles for easy portage. It also comes with a water resistant dry bag with water bottle holder behind each seatback, and an oversized carry bag so you can easily fold up the Molokai and stow it for the next trip.
The specs indicate that the Rave Molokai has a 200-lb per rider maximum weight capacity but that seems to be rather overstated. We wouldn’t want to see this craft weighed down with a total load of over 320 pounds combined, and a single heavy user could experience some bend in the middle of the kayak. As for the leg room, the forward paddler has a lot of space to stretch out while the rear paddler will need to dangle his legs in the water or position them alongside the front rider. Other than such minor issues, user reviews have been favorable on this new kayak.
Your Best Choice for a Cheap Tandem SOT
The $299 Rave Molokai inflatable kayak has a beautiful bright blue hull design that makes it a good-looking craft on the water. It is designed for flat water, slow rivers, or mild surf, and isn’t recommended for fast water but it has such versatility that you find plenty of uses for it. There are only a handful of tandem SOT kayaks on the market and this one beats the competition handily. In fact, we like it better than the Sevylor SOT which feels cheap compared to the Molokai.
