Popularity Reigns for Sevylor Inflatable Boats & Kayaks
Sevylor Inflatable Boat & Kayak Reviews
Despite economic downturns, business is booming for Sevylor inflatable boats, which has kept afloat long after many competitors have sunk. While a traditional boat can be a substantial investment and out of reach of many people, affordable inflatable boats and kayaks built by leaders like Sevylor continue to grab a large share of the multi-billion dollar recreational boating industry in North America.
The Coleman Sevylor Boats
Sevylor was founded in 1948 in Vitry, France, by Berco Grimbert who used his expertise in high frequency welding on PVC material to invent an inflatable tube he called the Dou Dou. The company went on to develop a PVC fabric that could hold a shape regardless of temperature and used this technique in a variety of inflatable boats and water sports products.
Sevylor inflatable boats are now part of the Coleman corporate family. The company continues to make high quality kayaks, canoes, fishing boats, tenders, tow rafts, snow tubes, pool floats, and much more.
Of the dozen models of Sevylor inflatable kayaks and canoes, among the best-sellers are the Colorado Canoe, the Tahiti Classic, the Tahiti HF, the one-person Sit On Top, the tandem Sit On Top, the Pointer K2 Kayak, and the Rio Canoe.
Here’s a quick look at two of them:
First marketed in 1963, the Tahiti HF Kayak is the oldest model of all Sevylor boats. This lightweight inflatable kayak stands out from the crowd thanks to its camouflage hunter- colored PVC hull. Sevylor boasts that the Tahiti HF has been paddled the length of the Amazon River — twice.

The new Sit On Top inflatable boat is a little harder to place in a category since it is not a canoe or a kayak. Modeled on boats used by Polynesian Islanders a thousand years ago, the Sit on Tops are made with the same tough outer hull and double I-beam electronically welded seams as the Tahiti Classic and the rest of the line. The main attraction to these nearly unsinkable little inflatables is that they are easy for a novice to paddle on a variety of water.
In addition to canoes and kayaks, there are more than a dozen models of Sevylor inflatable boats. The best-selling boat models include the 2-person Caravelle, the 6-person Super Caravelle, the Tender Runabout, and the 9'2" Fish Hunter.
With a max capacity of 700 pounds, the popular Fish Hunter boats (there are 3 sizes) are made of extra heavy duty virgin PVC, and come with an inflatable floor using I-beam construction. They feature Boston valves, swivel oarlocks, two fishing rod holders, and accept up to a 3 hp gas motor. Priced at around $150, the Sevylor Fish Hunter is one of the most outstanding values on the market today and highly recommended by anglers.

Sevylor Boat Reviews
Sevylor Colossus 4-Person Boat - This $75 boat isn’t something you want to paddle any distance and it has an unrealistic name for a raft that is less than 10 feet long and only holds 2 people comfortably.
Sevylor Fish Hunter - These boats are hard to beat when it comes to portability, storage, ease of use, weight capacity and price.
Sevylor Super Caravelle - Great for a leisurely day on a calm lake. DIN safety chamber prevents boat from sinking if outer hull is punctured.

Sevylor QuikPak K1 - A $100 coverless sit-on-top kayak to take out on a sunny day when you’re in a bathing suit and don’t mind tipping over and getting dunked frequently.
Sevylor QuikPak K5 - The lightweight and portable 23-pound K5 is the best design of the Quikpaks. Folds down into its own backpack thanks to a unique storage design.
Sevylor Rio Inflatable Canoe - Packs down small so you can take it anywhere, quick to deflate and inflate; use in both freshwater and saltwater.
Sevylor Colorado Inflatable Canoe - The world's best-selling inflatable canoe. Extremely safe for beginners, sturdy enough to stand up in; comfortable, padded seats with high rigid back support.
Sevylor Fiji Travel Pack - The $80 kayak is advertised as a “promotional version” of the classic Tahiti, but there’s no comparing the Fiji with the legend.
Sevylor Samoa Standup Inflatable Paddleboard - The surprisingly rigid SUP feels like a hardboard you would find in a surf shop but this one packs down to a small backpack.
