The Sevylor Sit-on-Top Inflatable Kayak: Fun for Kicking Around in the Surf
The Sevylor Sit-on-Top inflatable kayak offers a fun way for novices to experience the great sport of kayaking. The sit-on-top models have become very popular in recent years because they are effortless to handle and even easier to re-board from the water after a swim.

Good Fun for the Kids
These are fun toys for mild wave surfing and recreational use, yet reviewers caution new buyers to be leery of the stated weight capacity. Anyone over 200 pounds should think twice before getting the 1-Person Sevylor Sit-on-Top inflatable kayak if you don’t want to end up sitting in a semi-taco in the middle of the surf with a constant wet butt. On the other hand, lighter weight folks should have no trouble, and this Sevylor can provide loads of fun as long as you don’t paddle it any great distance.
Sevylor Inflatable Boats, Kayaks & Canoes - Sevylor.com
The design of this Sit-on-Top has limited use compared to sit-in kayaks, or the more rugged sit-on-tops in the $1000 to $1500 range. Since it isn’t designed to carry much (if any) gear for day touring, this Sevylor inflatable is best used for riding the waves or just kicking around in a lake. So if surfing, sunning, and paddling near the shoreline with your feet dangling in the water is what you have planned, then this is a good choice for you.
What We Say
If you really really like this Sevylor Sit-on-Top inflatable kayak, we suggest you pass on the 1-person Sevy and pay the extra money for the longer 2-person model, and paddle it solo. You will appreciate the extra length, plus the tandem model is just as easy to maneuver plus it tracks better and feels more stable. The price-to-value ratio is a problem with this inflatable kayak, so unless you can get the Sevylor Sit-on-Top on sale and can save $100 or so off the list price, this is too much money to pay for a play boat.
