Sevylor Super Caravelle Inflatable Boats: Fun Rafts for Campers on a Budget

The complete line of inexpensive Sevylor Super Caravelle inflatable boats are priced from around $50 to $160, cheap enough for most campers and RV owners to pack and take along for leisurely days at the lake.

A Look at the Boats

Sevylor Super Caravelle inflatable boats have been produced for 40 years, which gives you an idea of the long-lasting popularity of the rafts. As a pioneer design, the Caravelle was the first oval inflatable boat in the world to incorporate a DIN safety chamber, which inflates inside the main outer chamber. If the outer hull is punctured, the boat will still float.

Standard Features (6-person Super Caravelle):

There are four sizes of Sevylor Super Caravelle Inflatable Boats -

  • 2-person model: LOA - 6'6", Beam - 4', Weight - 8 lbs., Capacity - 360 lbs.
  • 3-person model: LOA - 7'10", Beam - 4'7", Weight - 13 lbs., Capacity - 600 lbs.
  • 4-person model: LOA - 9'2", Beam - 5', Weight - 31 lbs., Capacity 700 lbs.
  • 6-person model: LOA - 11'1", Beam - 5'4", Weight - 39 lbs., Capacity - 1,100 lbs.

Sevylor’s two larger models have four patented Delrin swivel oarlocks and a patented motor support chamber. The smaller inflatable boats have two molded oarlocks. All Super Caravelle models have heavy-duty PVC hulls, a motor mount bustle chamber for adding an electric or small gas motor, and tunnel chambers on the bottom of the boat for improved support and tracking.

What Owners Say

Inflatable boat reviews are mixed on the Super Caravelle, which is a shame since a popular sibling, the Sevylor Fish Hunter, gets rave feedback. These models have disappointed some owners who remark that a patch job can take 12 hours to set before recommended use, and that the boats are susceptible to hull punctures in very cold climates.

What We Say

Sevylor’s largest Super Caravelle boat is advertised as a 6-person boat, but that’s quite a crowd unless everyone sits on the tube sides and not inside the boat. Three people plus gear is comfortable, perhaps even four people knees-to-knees while in transit, but don’t plan on more than that. The inflatables are lightweight and affordable, yet you need to make a few compromises: they aren’t for extreme weather conditions, river rafting, or rugged backcountry expeditions. But for light use on a calm lake, these affordable Sevylor Super Caravelle inflatable boats will be just fine.
