Stable and Comfortable
This self-bailing whitewater inflatable kayak has a 6" inflatable drop-stitch floor and 4 closeable drain valves. A pressure relief valve (PRV) in the I-beam floor prevents over-inflation by venting air if the pressure in the floor exceeds 2.5 psi. Its tough hull fabric made with 25-oz 1000 Denier on the tubes gives you piece of mind when you are forced to bonk off boulders or if you happen to drag the boat across rocky shores. A removable skeg tracks the Zoik AlterEgo straight when paddling flat water. The 13.5" rocker plus the bow/stern covers help to keep water from splashing into the boat.
This super-buoyant kayak makes a very safe family watercraft out on a lake, and is quite maneuverable for the angler looking to drop a line in shallow water near aquatic weeds and stumps. With a clip-in seat and high floor, you ride higher in Zoik AlterEgo inflatable kayaks than in other IK cockpits allowing you more sightline over the water. These kayaks have been used by competitors in multi-sport endurance events where a majority of racers had little to no paddling skills.
The reviews on this entry-level whitewater inflatable kayak are decent. You should be aware that the AlterEgo has a wide 38" beam which is 2-4" wider than most IKs but that also allows it to carry a huge load capacity up to 320 lbs. With those specs, however, reviewers remark that it acts more like an inflatable canoe than a kayak.
What We Say
Zoik AlterEgo inflatable kayaks are stable, comfortable, have easy entry and exit, and offer good maneuverability if you consider that they feel more like mini-rafts than kayaks. They are very roomy and practically untippable. If you want more of a kayak feel, however, we would recommend the Zoik RF solo or tandem IK which gets great reviews for handling and comfort.
