Pros and Cons of the RF (Mostly Pros!)
The material on Zoik RF inflatable kayaks is 31 oz 1000 Denier coated with PVC to protect against scraps, punctures, abrasions, and harsh sunlight. The pressure relief valve in the I-beam floor is self-regulating: it vents any excess air to prevent over-inflation. Zoik uses the same type of seating arrangement as NRS kayaks; the paddler sits on the floor with a thwart for a backrest. Some paddlers feel that thwarts are more comfortable than high back seats that don’t adjust. The thwart can be inflated to any comfortable pressure you prefer.
There is no skeg kit but the 5" raised floor design helps it to track across flat water. The inflatable kayak has a user-friendly width of 39" making it difficult to overturn even with a payload up to 450 pounds (weight distributed correctly). The self-bailing Zoik RF can be handled well by beginners or advanced paddlers. In fact, the Zoik RFs, along with Aire Tributary Tomcats, are the kayaks provided to racers in the extreme Adventure Racing (kayaking, trek, mountain bike, rappel, and orienteering) series held in Utah and Colorado.
Reviews submitted by Zoik RF kayakers are excellent. Comparing it to an NRS Bandit (which it resembles in profile, rocker, floor, and thwarts), the Zoik beats the NRS hands down. The paddlers find that the RF turns on a dime and punches waves better. It also has a better profile than the NRS and is made with stronger material.
Where to Get a Great Deal
You can buy Zoik RF inflatable kayaks directly from the company which periodically offers some good sales. You can also find a used Zoik on ebay and save about $250 over the MSRP. These ebay kayaks are the same IKs used in the Adventure Racing competition mentioned above. The RFs have been paddled for about 30 river miles but are otherwise in near new condition, and Zoik honors the 5-year warranty to the new owner.
